Life’s Little Distractions – Like Fruit Flies!
Okay, what is up with this blogging thing? I tell myself I’m going to write a post every week, and what happens?
Life happens, that’s what!
A book proposal, due. A novel, half-completed and abandoned for the summer. A brother in the hospital, 100 miles away, with life-threatening pneumonia. Bills to pay (which are overdue). A huge pile of papers to file (all those bills I paid over the course of the past three months). Groceries to buy (the cupboard is bare). The social networking I should begin working on to help promote my new book, Autism and Alleluias (which is now available for pre-order at the Judson Press website at the following link: http://www.judsonpress.com/product.cfm?product_id=13888 ).
Oh, and did I mention? We bought a new house this summer. A retreat in the country – only 45 minutes from our home, but still, it’s a drive, and we’re just now getting it furnished and ready for retreatants.
At the top of the unpleasant distraction list has been an infestation of fruit flies. Which is why the cupboard is bare – I threw away everything that was already opened, which was ALOT! But, I did come up with the perfect way to kill the little buggers – a couple of inches of balsamic vinegar in a glass, over which you tightly stretch saran wrap, poked full of little holes. The fruit flies are attracted to the vinegar, make their way through the holes, and get trapped in a vinegary death.
Oh yeah. I also have a husband and one son still at home, and another son and daughter-in-law who live nearby, and a son in Oregon, all of whom enjoy spending time with me (the feeling’s mutual!). And a great group of friends who love to meet for lunch or coffee or wine or a movie or a walk in the park…
And then there’s that little detail of daily time with God, as in meditation, or Bible study, or journaling.
Yup. Just a few things calling my name. And so this blog keeps getting swept under the rug along with all the stuff I don’t seem to have the time for. And yet…
I KNOW I CAN DO THIS!
Now, if I can just schedule it into my week on a regular basis…

Yes, it’s really hard to find enough time for all the important things in life. But I think you do an amazing job of keeping the balance!
